This image is from the 2024 Bird Week Australia Exhibition “Spark” How one bird can change everything.

Is there a bird you accidently noticed or unexpectedly encountered or one that made your heart skip a beat & fall in love with?

The One that ignited your birding passion or made you appreciate your local feathered friends.

If so, this is your “Spark bird” a term used by birders to describe that first bird that got them seriously interested in birding.

For Angela it is Black Cockatoos.

Meet Denmark!

Denmark resides at Kaarakin Black Cockatoo sanctuary, a centre dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of black cockatoos in Western Australia.

In the wild, the population of this cockatoo species has declined because of habitat degradation. Trees with suitable breeding hollows are rapidly being cleared and are in short supply. In addition, food trees have also declined.

Carnaby's are classified as endangered.

Denmark is holding a gum nut, they need to feed on about 80 of these daily to sustain their body weight.
