Meet Ozzie!
Nellie resides at Kaarakin Black Cockatoo sanctuary, a centre dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of black cockatoos in Western Australia.
 
Ozzie was confiscated as she was poached out of the wild as a nestling (to be a pet) and came to Kaarakin in 2009.  Now she lives in the interactive aviary with her other cockatoo friends.
 
In the wild, the population of this cockatoo species has declined because of habitat degradation. Trees with suitable breeding hollows are rapidly being cleared and are in short supply. In addition, food trees have also declined.
